LGBTQIA+ CARE DIRECTORY

All about people who are
50 and over
Gayther is committed to creating the world’s first comprehensive global directory of care providers and services, or CPS. This directory aims to help older LGBTQIA+ members find inclusive businesses and services that are willing and experienced in supporting people like them. It highlights specialised and tailored services, as well as those businesses, both established and general, that simply want to be inclusive and welcoming to everyone, regardless of gender, race, religion, sexuality, or how they choose to identify.

The CPS directory covers not only care homes and advanced assisted living but also includes all the support and services needed by the elderly community throughout their later years, from prepared meal services to medical and physical assistance.

The CPS offers businesses and service providers both free, yes, completely free, and affordable low-cost listing plans. This ensures a thorough listing service that covers all available services while also helping businesses promote their inclusivity and offerings without financial pressure or commitments.

An essential guide to understanding
With improved Wi-Fi connectivity and a wide range of products and services designed to enhance your quality of life, many reduce the time it takes to perform tasks for others, automating them completely. From emergency lifelines with automatic attendants and intelligent monitoring to home automation, such as controlling lights, heating, and other functions, all from your phone or via voice commands, many of these technologies not only assist but also enable you to stay at home longer as your support and cognitive abilities evolve. Although new technology can seem intimidating, our smart home guide is designed not only to showcase what’s available but also to provide simple, easy-to-understand guides on installing and using these products in your daily life.

The time and place we are born significantly influence the quality of our lives, the opportunities available to us, and the challenges many of us will encounter. Whether it’s the Silent Generation, heavily affected by events surrounding WWII, or Generation Z, shaped by the global pandemic, technology, and environmental factors, people born around the same time tend to share similarities and common experiences that will likely impact and shape their lives. All individuals born within a specific period, between certain years, constitute a generation. The Gayther Generations tool is designed not only to help you quickly identify your generation but also to highlight all generations since the early 1900s, providing interesting facts and insights into the challenges faced by many within those generations. Explore the generations today.

INCLUSIVE CARE AND SERVICES

Minor changes and adaptations to become
more inclusive
The world’s population continues to grow, and global life expectancy is rising. As people live well into their retirement, often beyond their sixties, partly due to improvements in nutrition, medicine, and public health, the demand for care and support services will also increase. These services will need to adapt to evolving customer needs. While personalised services can help meet community demands, especially for those who are vulnerable or still face challenges related to their sexuality or gender identity, the reality is that the development of such services will not be rapid enough to satisfy the global demand.

Inclusive services are those in which tailored and conventional care providers and services adapt their offerings to welcome a wider audience. Small adjustments, such as how staff communicate with customers, implementing a code of conduct to reduce isolation, and establishing accepted behaviours in a care setting, or simply stating that everyone is welcome, can make a difference. Care providers and services that adopt inclusive practices can create welcoming environments and reassure LGBTQIA+ community members about using such services.
Case Study
The Schwulen Beratung Berlin, or the Berlin Gay Counselling Centre, is a non-profit organisation that in 2008 established Lebensort Vielfalt (Diversity Living Space), a unique housing project for people of all ages, genders, and sexual orientations. Its goal is to create an intergenerational home that promotes community and mutual support. The project aims to reduce loneliness and discrimination and foster a strong network of support for residents.

Lebensort Vielfalt offers apartments and facilities across three sites in Berlin: Charlottenburg, Südkreuz, and Ostkreuz. These locations include office and group rooms, over 90 apartments, a daycare centre for children, a café called Café Transfair, and a dedicated residential care facility for eight people, providing 24-hour nursing care and dementia support. The launch of this specialist care facility marked it as the first supported living community in Europe specifically for gay men with care needs and dementia. The Schwulen Beratung Berlin maintains a housing database for anyone interested in available apartments or services.
