The Cook Islands are part of the Polynesia region in the continent of Oceania. The Cook Islands are believed to have been named after Captain James Cook, a British royal naval office, explorer and navigator. It is in the Southern hemisphere and is 240 square kilometres in size. The primary languages spoken are English and Māori, the capital city is Avarua and the main currency used is the New Zealand Dollar.
