Haiti is part of the Caribbean region in the continent of the Americas. The name Haiti is believed to have derived from the Hayiti term meaning mountainous land. It is in the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, near the equator and is 27.8 thousand square kilometres in size. The primary languages spoken are French and Haitian Creole, the capital city is Port-au-Prince and the main currency used is the Haiti Gourde.
