Thailand is part of the South-eastern Asia region in the continent of Asia. Thailand is was previously called Siam, which is derived from the Pāli term, Land of Gold, and is also known as the Land of Smiles. It is in the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, near the equator and is 514 thousand square kilometres in size. The primary language spoken is Thai, the capital city is Bangkok, and the main currency used is the Baht.
