Chad is part of the Central Africa region in the continent of Africa. The name Chad is believed to have derived from the Kanuri word for lake. It is in the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, near the equator and is 1.3 million square kilometres in size. The primary languages spoken are Arabic and French; the capital city is N'Djamena and the main currency used is the CFA Franc Beac.
