Mali is part of the Western Africa region in the continent of Africa. The name Mali is believed to have derived from the Malinke term meaning hippopotamus. It is in the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, near the equator and is 1.2 million square kilometres in size. The primary language spoken is French, the capital city is Bamako, and the main currency used is the CFA Franc Bceao.
